Uma Thurman Can not Keep Out of Court
Just as the trial of her stalker, Jack Jordan came to a close, no sooner is Uma Thurman back in court. And now that she’s got the creepy ordeal with Jordan behind, Uma’s after her money. Or more specifically, French cosmetics giant, Lancome’s money, which Uma Thurman claims one million dollars of, is rightfully hers.
It seems back in 2000, Uma Thurman struck a deal with Lancôme to use her likeness to promote their line of cosmetics for two years in exchange for a cool $5.8 million. Not a bad deal if you ask us.
Once the contact had expired, Lancôme could exercise the option to renew on a per-year basis for $3.1 million. But according to Uma Thurman and her legal eagles, the cosmetics company decided to continue to use her face to front products without paying up.
Thurman’s suit alleges that Lancôme used her likeness on Canadian billboards and Asian websites without compensating the “Kill Bill” star. And so back to court she goes.
Bertram Fields, Uma Thurman’s lawyer in the matter, stated, “I thought we were negotiating in good faith. I guess the French decided to strike a pre-emptive blow. I’m delighted that the case will go before a jury. They got an enormous benefit throughout the world after the contract was over, and $1 million doesn’t begin to do it.”
To their defense, Lancôme’s lawyer Peter Raymond has stated that "[Lancôme] pulled the pages off as soon as they found out about them, they didn't even know they were there."
They may not have known they were there, but they still made money. At least that’s the take Uma Thurman has on it.
